MANAGER’S THEFT.
MISAPPROPRIATED MONEY “ SENT TO A WOMAN.” COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. Charged as manager of Dunbar’s cash store,- Hamilton, with the theft of £l4l 15s Id, the property of the company, Henry Alfred Richardson, single, aged 35, pleaded guilty before Mr Wyvern Wilson at Hamilton today. Edward Sweeting, secretary to the company, said Richardson had been employed by the Arm for lour years and as Hamilton branch manager for 12 months. It was one of accused’s duties to regularly bank the proceeds of sales. On a recent check being made it was discovered that £l4l 15s Id was unaccounted for. Accused left the Arm's employ without giving notice, but he left a letter for witness in which he stated that he was feeling very ill and could not continue with his work. Detective Sergeant J. Thompson said that on Interviewing accused the latter admitted the . theft of the money. He stated that he had sent most of tho money to a woman add her family in Auckland, who were very hard up. They were running two taxis, and did not know the money was stolen. He had expected to be able to repay the money out of a legacy from England which had not materialised. Accused was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court, at Auckland.
