VALEDICTORY.
FUNCTION AT CAMBRIDGE. TO MRS AND MR F. PENN. SEVERAL PRESENTATIONS MADE. There was a large attendance at the Methodist Hall on Monday evening on the occasion of a valedictory social to Mr and Mrs Frank Penn and family who are leaving Cambridge to take up residence in Auckland. Mr and Mrs Penn have lived in Cambridge for some ten years and the many speakers voiced the esteem in which the family has been held, by church people and others who have been In contact with them during that period.. A musical programme opened the evening, after which farewell was made on behalf of the various branches of the church in which the Penns have interested themselves. Mr E. J. Easter, on behalf of the church members, the choir and the Sunday School spoke in appreciative manner of Mr Penn’s work in connection with the church as Circuit Steward for the past years. His place would be a hard one to fill. Mr Easter also paid a tribute to Miss K. Penn, who had for the past ten years attended most faithfully to the decoration of the church. On behalf of the church people Mr Easter handed Miss Penn a cheque as a small mark df appreciation.
The sentiments of the Young Women’s Bible Class were voiced by Miss A. Tripp. Misses K. and M. Penn had both been members of the class and Mr and Mrs Penn were vicepresidents. Miss M. Penn was presented on behalf of her fellow members with a handsome book. On behalf of the Leamington Methodists Mr E. J. Vinall regretted the departure of the Penn family and wished them every success.
The Rev. J. W. Parker added a tribute to Mr and Mrs Penn and family as faithful and loyal church members. iMr G. E. Clark, on behalf of the church as a whole, presented Mr and Mrs Penn with a handsome chiming clock inscribed with a few words of appreciation of the long and faithful service rendered the Cambridge Methodist church, and wished _ the recipients happiness and prosperity in Auckland. Mr Penn returned thanks as did also Misses K. and M. Penn. The programme, as rendered, was as follows: —Pianoforte and violin duet, Misses L. and A. Tripp.; song, Miss Gwen Beer; recitations, Mr E. B. Kemsley; song, Miss Nona Easter, monologues, Mr JYank Penn, solo. Miss K. Penn; recitations, Miss Thora Hardy; song, Mr G. James.
