TROUBLE AT MINE.
MEN REFUSE TO WORK. 180 RENDERED IDLE. COLLIERIES CLOSED INDEFINITELY As a protest against the engagement of men in the work of dumping coal slack, fifteen men employed at the screens at the Renown Collieries, Ruawaro, near Huntly, refused to work yesterday. As a result the collieries have been closed down Indefinitely. The disposal of the collieries’ slack la in the bands of Waikato Carbonisation, Limited, which employs a speoial staff. The miners who have ceased work maintain that as they are not on full time at present they should be permitted to undertake the dumping opbrallons themselves when the mine is Inactive. Although the dispute directly concerns but a few men no fewer than 180 have been rendered idle. The management of the mine has intimated to the employees that it will not discuss the matter until work is resumed.
A meeting of the men is to be held to-day and it is hoped that a settlement will result.
