UNEMPLOYED AND HOUSE RENTS.

(To the Editor). Sir, —In reply to “Armenian” re the unemployed and house rents, I may •state that the unemployed members regret the remark made by “Yorkie" in reference to Ills intention of not paying his rent. However, Mr Editor, that is “Yorkie’s” idea of doing things, and I may state that he should have been -ruled out -of order. Needless to say “Yorkie” is not a New Zealander, and -lie is typical of quite a lot of Tlomle-s whom we have in little New Zealand to our sorrow. We, New Zealanders, are just as much up against it as "Y'orkie," but do not go to the unemployed meetings and make statements that are -put In the press which knock us back in the public's eyes. Wc recognise the fact that the Unemployment Board is -short of funds, but at the same time are fighting against the Hamilton grant being cut down. Trusting our -readers will quite understand that “Yorkie’s” remarks are not upheld •by Hamilton unemployed workers, and we do not stand for his ideas in regard to rent, an idea lie has apparently copied from Lang, who has painted New -South W lies black to the outside world. —I am. etc., EIGHT HOUR A DAY. -. Hamilton, July 27, 1931.

(To the Editor)

Sir,—l was pleased to r-ia.l the letter of Mr Ettershank in your issue of Saturday, renouncing, on behalf of the workers tne, sentiments expressed by a person at a recent meeting of relief workers regarding the payment of rent, I desire 'to reiterate that my sympathy for the workers is deep and genuine, and as practical as I can make 't, but it gave me a nasty jar when I read tne comment referred to. In all things I like common honesty, whilst I would not for a moment think that the speaker referred to was a fair spoclmen of the rank and file, I cannot help expressing the opinion that it would be well for the cause of the workers if some of those who seek the limelight ns its advisers and champions could he effectively muzzled.—l am, etc., ARMENIAN. Cambridge, July 26, 1931.
