TEMPERANCE UNION.

THIRTY-SECOND ANNIVERSARY, CELEBRATED WITH SOCIAL. Yesterday marked the thirty-second anniversary of the, establishment of (lie Women’s Christian Temperance Union in Hamilton, and to celebrate Hie progress made a social evening was held last night in St. Paul’s Methodist Hall. The president, Mrs J. M. Jones, J.P., presided, and .extended a welcome to the large gathering. An enjoyable musical programme, interspersed with elocutionary items and amusing competitions, passed the evening, after which supper was served by a committee of ladies. . A feature was the large birthday cake, presented by Mr F. Findlay. A jumble stall, managed by Mesdames E. J. Davcy and G. Robertson, did good business. , Mr C. W. White, representing the New Zealand Alliance, congratulated the branch on reaching its thirtysecond birthday. Mrs J. Scat, secretary of the branch, issued an appeal for financial assistance in the campaign. The programme was as follows: —* Songs, Mesdames G. Boyes, Llewellyn Jones, Miss Jean Purdom, Mr W. B. L. Williams; vocal duets, Miss Jean Purdom and Mr W. B. L- Williams; elocutionary items, Miss K. Rapps.

The competitions were won by Misses 1. Andrews, Mona Bradley ami Iris 1-linklcy.
