WALTON NEWS.
The Weather and Pastures. Tiie cold weather during the last ' fortnight is no doubt seasonable, ’ ! nevertheless trie hard frosts have ; been servero and will have a detrij mental effect on the pastures. ... The stock mostly are in good conI dltion and are well able lo stand the I winter providing the extremely cold nights do not continue for a long period. There is plenty or winter feed on most farms, which will probably all be wanted, as there is every ' possibility of tiie spring growth being later than usual. Most farmers milk right through the winter in the Waikato owing to. the mild winters and now that low prices are being received winter milking is more needed than ever. A small cheque coming in during ihe winter months is the secret of successful farming, providing it docs m affect the cows too severely and leave them in a weak condition for coming in during the spring, but If the cold weather continues there will not be much milk obtained from the herds in Ibis district during winter. view it was decided to get the ladies Lo help in whatever way possible. Last Saturday evening, previous to Ihe entertainment tiie ladies were met by Messrs W. McLean (chairman) and 1 G snerlcy (secretary), and their • assistance was requested in preparing | a programme Hint may help to induce the people lo attend.
