TE AROHA NOTES.
Farming Operations. Notwithstanding the severity of the frosts experienced during the last week, pastures throughout tiic district are in splendid order and stock arc wintering really well. Cases are cited where the feeding out of hay and ensilage commenced in May of last year, while on the same properties it is expected that this mode of feeding may not be necessitated for some weeks yet. Very little grumbling is heard from the farmers of the district, who, although experiencing a. lean season, have strong hopes of “a better time coming.” The New Settlement. The Wait-akau settlement recently balloted for by the Government, now bears a very busy appearance, new residences and outbuildings giving evidence of the intention of the successful drawers to lie ready for the next season’s dairying operations. Fanning work is also in full swing and on at least some of tlie sections top-dressing will be taken in hand shortly. The recent decrease in tiie price of fertilisers is in favour of the new seniors, while the butter market lias a heller tone than when Ihe ballot was held. Taken as a whole there is very lillle pessimism in Ihe scltlemcnt, which promises to lie a success.
