THE TOWN’S ALMONRY.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l was interested in (lie article which appeared under the above heading in yv«*i' issue of Saturday last. I conslnf* lhe scheme as outlined an excellent one, and I for one will avail myself of the opportunity which tho Social Welfare League affords of ensuring that any sums I ran spare for alleviation of distress arc directed lo right channels. Past experience lias abundantly demonstrated lo me that 1 have been repeatedly taken down by “hard luck” stories, and while I
would much prefer to bo “had” than that a deserving case should pass unhelped, it is galling to know that one is looked upon as a “pigeon.” 1 shall henceforth contribute to the League’s funds as liberally as 1 can, and will have no compunction in referring applicants for relief to the welfare officers, knowing that they will be in a better position than I am to separate Hic wheat from the tares.- —I am, etc., ROBIN ADAIR.
