WORLD-WIDE JUBILEE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The suggestion recently made by your correspondent “Free Lance’’ that the nations of the world should proclaim a year of jubilee at first sight seems a startling proposition; and it probably would lake a long time to bring it to function; in fact, it is more than probable that ere it could be consummated the urgent need for it would have passed. At the same lime, it can hardly be gainsaid that the proposal is one worthy of serious consideration by statesmen of all countries, for the peace of the world ; will be constantly imperilled under i conditions now’ obtaining. Reparations ! payments cannot be met, as the visit of the German Ministers to London I goes to prove, and default will raise friction and engender suspicion that the money which should be devoted to the purpose is being diverted to channels for sinister objects. If America could see her duty clearly and do as Britain has done—wipe clean the slate—lt would do more than anything else towards the rehabilitation of the world on a good foundation, and inculcate a feeling of i amity, peace and goodwill amongst ! the peoples which would have its re- I ticx in national concord and fraternity. I Statesmen all subscribe to the doc- ! trine that to end the present crisis | international co-operation is impera- j live. What better form could that co-operation take than to follow the counsel of the greatest lawgiver the world has ever seen, proclaim a year of jubilee, and make a fresh start.— I am, etc., MACK. Te Awamutu, June G, IP3I.
