Contests for nine scats in the Victorian Legislative Council were held on Saturday, the occasion being the triennial election. It is now known that they resulted in the return of five retiring members and four new ones. The outstanding feature of the election was the diminished Labour vote and the overwhelming defeat of Mr W. J.
