DISPARITY IN TENDERS.
A DRAINAGE CONTRACT. " BETTER THAN ON THE DOLE.” Eleven tenders ranging from £220 to £B4 were received at the Waikato County Council to-day for improving the Kimihia Lake drain in the Huntly Riding. The engineer’s estimate for the work was £l5O. “ Over 3000 yards of material will have to be shifted,” remarked the engineer (Mr A. A. Woodward), “I don’t quite see how a man can do it for £84.” "Well, I suppose lie’s better there than on the dole,” remarked the chairman, Mr T. Hinton. The question of accepting the lowest or the next satisfactory tender was referred to the engineer and riding member.
