MAORI CIIIEFTAINESS.
The Daily Express publishes an interview with Miss Marie Moffatt., whose real name is Marie Te Kuhurangi Mawhete, who, it is claimed, belongs to a long line of Maori chieftains, and who has been presented at Court by Lady Wilford. Miss Moffatt is stated to be the first daughter of a Maori chieftain who has been accorded tills honour. She is at present in London training to become a professional musician. Miss Moffatt Is the elder daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Moffatt, of Awapuni. She is a descendant of the chieftains of the Rangftane tribe, being a great grand daughter of the Te Awe Awe family. Miss Moffatt received her early musical training at the Brigidlne Convent, Master-ton, being the youngest student tc- hold all the Trinity College, honours. About 18 months ago, on the advice of the board, she went lo London to continue her studies at Trinity College under the famous Rosenthal. Miss Moffatt lias made great, strides, and Professor Rosenthal, in Ids latest reports, expressed himself as delighted with her mastery of interpretation, and said her virtuosity was distinguished.
