STORAGE IN LONDON. SUBSTANTIAL SAVING' REVISION OF CHARGES. The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board advises that it has completed a new storage contract for butler at London at a reduction of 2s per ton on the consolidated rate. On a conservative estimate this means an annual saving of £9OOO. The following arc the charges from April 1: —Port dues per ton of 35 boxes, 2s Gd less 5 per cent, (cost of landing and first 14 days storage Is 8d per cwt.) ; consolidated rate (including seven days free), IGs 6d net; storage for second seven days, Gs; storage for third and any subsequent days, ss. On the basis of present charges and market values (say 115 s) wo estimate the cost of holding butter in London (Including storage, insurance and Interest) at is lOd per cwt. for each month after the first 14 days after landing. Cheese. —After prolonged negotiation the Board was unable to obtain sufficient reduction on current rates for cheese to warrant it entering into a definite contract for a period of years. New rates, however, have been arranged as from April 1, which show a saving of between £2OOO and £3OOO per annum. Under the old contract there were separate rates for summer and for winter, but there Is now one flat rate throughout the year. Charges from April 1, 1931: Port dues, per ton of 13 crates, Is Gd less 5 per cent, (cost of landing and first seven days re nt —Is 7d per cwt) ; consolidated rate Including 7 days free storage) IGs net; rent for second and any subsequent seven days, Is 9d. On the basis of present charges and market values (say 555) we estimate the cost of holding cheese in London (including storage, interest and insurance, also shrinkage at rate of £ per cent. per month) at Is per cwt., for each month after the first seven days after landing. The consolidated rale ojovers the following services: Taking delivery from ship, lighterage, landing, sorting to marks and grades, removal to cold store, cold storage for one week, delivery to land conveyance.

Deliveries New Zealand this week 1590 tons; in store, 6719 tons. Australian, salted, 108 s to 110 s; unsalted, 109 s to 112 s (110 s to 114 s). Deliveries Australian 1212 tons; in store 2412 tons. Argentine, unsalted, 1088, 110 s to 112 s (108 s to 112 s). Irish cream, salted, 112 s to 114 s (113 s). Danish, Ills f.0.b., 117 sto 1209 spot {ll3s, 119 sto 120 s). Dutch, unsalted, 112 s to 116 s (112 s to 116 s). Eslhonlan, salted, 108 s to 110 s (not quoted); unsalted, 110 s to 112 s (not quoted), Latvian, salted, 108 sto 110 s (112 s). Siberian, unsalted, 106 s to :108s (108 s to 110 s). Market quiet, retail prices unchanged. Empire Marketing Boards estimated stocks of all 'butters at May 30, 1931, 558,242 boxes, last year, 1,030,635 boxes. Cheese: Yew Zealand, while, 53s to 55s (53s to 555); coloured, 5Gs to 58s (57s to 595). Deliveries New Zea'land 'this week, 25,000 crates; in store, 188,554 crates- Australian coloured, 5Gs to 57s (565). South African, 50s to 52s (50s to 525). Market steady. Retail prices unchanged. Canadian, white and coloured, 70s, 74s to 7Gs last season’s (70s, 74s lo 765), . Market quiet.' Deliveries Canadian 3856 boxes; in store 127,684 boxes. This season’s Canadian cheese and butter not yet officially quoted; arrivals Canadian cheese 2300 boxes. C.i.f. quotations coloured cheese 575, butter 107 s, expect 11,000 boxes arrive next week. The board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada: Butter, New York, 234 cents (lljd); Montreal 20J cents (10 3-8 d).
