MOTOR COMPANY SUED. ALLEGED PROMISED TRIP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The loss of a promised 'trip to Australia was the subject of a claim made in the Supreme Court to-day by Robert Alexander Sloan, motor salesman, of Auckland, who sued General Motors (N.Z.), Ltd., Petone, for £2Ol, in lieu thereof. In his statement of claim plaintiff said he was for five years in the employ of General Motors as a fieldsman, his sendees being dispensed with on December 31 last. At a meeting of fieldsmen of the company in' January, 1929, it was claimed that the company, by its managing director, W. Mcllardy Forman, offered as a mode of effecting sales, a free trip to five plants of the company in different States of Australia to the winner of the fieldsmen's efficiency contest, covering a period from January to December, 1929. Plaintiff won the contest and was promised a trip at the expense of the company. Plaintiff claimed that the company had since December 31, 1930, refused to carry out the promise or recognise any obligation in regard thereto, or to compensate plaintiff.
The defence was a denial that an offer was made or that, if it were made, there was no consideration for such promise, which was unenforceable. After evidenco had been given the hearing was adjourned.
