A CHURCH DISPUTE
APPOINTMENT OF VICAR. PRIMATE OVER-RIDES BISHOP., United Press Assn,—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, June 2. The Primate, Dr. Cosmo Lang, has decided to admit the Rev. G. D. Simmonds to the Incumbency of St. Aidan’s Church, Birmingham, in spite of the protests of the Bishop of Birmingham, Dr. E. W. Barnes, and his refusal to submit tho matter to the Court. The Archibshop states that he has examined Mr Simmonds and has found that he holds the faith of the Church of England. The Bishop of Birmingham, when informed in December, 1929, that tho living of St. Aidan’s Church, Small Health, had been offered to the Rev. G. D. Simmonds, wrote to Mr Simmonds regarding practices which he declared unauthorised, and said such services must cease, lie asked for an undertaking from the new incumbent, which Mr Simmonds refused to give. The bishop refused to induct him, and the patrons of the living obtained an order in the High Court that Dr. Barnes —who did not appear as de-. fendant—should admit and license Mr Simmonds.
