ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

GLEN MASSEY v. WANDERERS.

Wretched conditions prevailed for the match between Wanderers and Glen Alassey, on the latter’s ground. Steady rain fell all the afternoon, making the ground very slippery and the ball hard to control. The Wanderers adapted themselves to the conditions much quicker than the local team, which was fielding four substitutes, and set up a constinl attack on the Glen Massey goal aud Gavaye netted. From the kick-otf they made a short-lived raid, then the Wanderers returned 'and Neale scored. These reverses livened up the Glen Massey players and they swung the ball about with more force, and from "a cross by Gair, J. Alorwooci scored. Play swung rapidly from end to end but no further score resulted. Just before half-time Schonau was hurt and had to leave the field. Wanderers had the better -of matters in the second half, but Russell and poor shooting kept the score down. Neale took the ball right through from half-way and scored. Glen Alassey were several times within striking distance, but poor shooting and hesitating spoiled their chances. Just before the finish Wanderers soored what looked very like an ofl T side goal to the writer. —Wanderers 4, Glen Alassey 1. Air R. Gair was referee. Comments,

For the Wanderers Gardiner, at full-back, played a great game and saved his side time and again. Watson was outstanding among the halves, though they all worked well. Neale was the pick of the forwards, while Cavaye and Cooper were always dangerous. Schonau was good until hurt.

The 'Glen Massey team was badly disorganised owing to absentees. At. Connew, a junior substitute, played a great game. AlcCaig was much better In the second spell, when ho was moved to the half line. Dockerty was very fair and got through a lot of work. Russell, in goal, had a hard day, but came through creditably. ENGLISH TROPHY MATCH. AUCKLAND, Wednesday.
