FUSION.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—“Onlooker” is so well pleased with the result of the Hauraki election that lie has persuaded himself that all troublesome political questions have been thereby solved. He is living in a fool’s paradise, for all our problems remain, and will do so until politicians of “Onlooker’s” school can take a broader vista. Hauraki is a Tory stronghold, and last week’s poll cannot be regarded In any sense as a reflex of public sentiment, in the Dominion, only in so far that it shows that the swing towards Labour is double that to Reform. That swing will become more pronounced as time progresses, and whilst "Onlooker" may vaunt and boast, he will ere long have no alternative but to swallow the potion at which at present his palate jibs.—l am, etc., 'JUNIUS.
