WORK FOR THE BLIND.

CONFERENCE IN NEW YORK. MR CLUTHA MACKENZIE RETURNS. WELLINGTON, Monday. Mr Clutha N. Mackenzie returned by'the Makura to-day from the world conference at New York for the coordination of welfare work for the blind. Mr Mackenzie spoke generally of the work clone at the conference and the decision to adopt a uniform type of Braille in English-speaking countries. “ The conference was organised by the American Foundation for the Blind," said Mr Mackenzie. “It was the first international conference since that held in London in 1914 and the delegates comprised representatives from 35 different countries. The work occupied the best part of three weeks. It included a tour through a number of cities and States to inspect the schools and workshops of blind welfare organisations. From our experience in New Zealand we were able to contribute very appreciably to its work and particular note was taken of many aspects of our system, especially pensions and after-care work. In comparison with the organisations of other countries, ours in New Zealand stands very well.”
