STEEL HELMETS ACTIVE

A message from Berlin says the former Crown Prince, 'Field-Marshal Mackensen and other war leaders witnessed a parade of Steel Helmets at Breslau 'on the anniversary of the Battle of Jutland. Fiery speeches stirred the vast assemblage 'to sing “Deutschland über Alles” and other patriotic songs. Meanwhile in the working class quarters of Breslau Socialists marched through the streets, shouting “Death to the Steel Helmets! Down with the Fascists!" The police speedily suppressed the demonstration. The only serious incident was when a shot was fired at a train carrying Steel Helmets, one of whom was killed. The speeches at the parade were confined to the minor leaders, who emphasised that the movement would never surrender land which had once been German, never recognise the frontiers imposed by the Treaty of Versailles, and never rest until all German land was returned to the Reich. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that the President, Marshal von Hindenburg, attended the commemoration of the Battle of'Jutland at the War Ministry, where Admiral von Trotha, who was Chief of Staff of the former High Seas Fleet, paid a tribute to the sailors and the late Admiral von Tirpitz, a bust oi whom was unveiled. > A naval detachment mounted guard at the President’s palace in honour of the day. PARIS, May 31. The demonstration by the Steel Helmets at Breslau has hardened the French attitude toward disarmamen! and increased scepticism regarding German pacifism.
