COAL CARBONISATION.
THE PLANT AT ROTOWARO. TO BE OPENED NEXT WEEK. On Juno 10, the carbonisation plant erected at Rotowaro by Waikato Carbonisation, Ltd., will bo formally opened by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch. The Minister of Mines, the Hon. A. J. Murdoch, will also be present. A large' number of guests will be convoyed from Auckland by special train, and others are expected from Wellington and elsewhere. Mr W. D. liolgate, chairman of the company, will preside. The first briquettes made In the plant were turned out last week and limited quantities are being given locomotive tests, the main purpose of the project being to manufacture from slack a high-class railway fuel of grcalcr calorific value than the original Waikato coal, after the removal of oils and other products.
