VALEDICTORY.

FAREWELL AT KIWITAHI. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbours at a farewell party held in Mr F. Smith’s woolshed, Kiwitahi, to farewell Mr and Mrs D. Turner. The evening was spent in games, cards, and dancing, for which music was supplied by Mrs T. McMillan. -< ' ■ Mr F. Smith asked Mrs Turner to accept' a handsome Doulton tea pot and. cake dish from her Kiwitahi friends.. He wished the guests happiness and prosperity fin their new sphere, and expressed regret at their departure from the district. Mr . Turner suitably replied. POPULAR FAMILY HONOURED.

IN WAITERIMU-MATAHURU. A large number gathered in the Wai-terlmu-Matahuru hall to farewell Mr and Mrs George Porteous, before their departure from that district. A most enjoyable evening was spent in •dancing to Mr Allan’s excellent music. Mr W. Lawry made an able M.C. Mr Ansley, on behalf of the settlers and sports bodies, presented Mr Porteous with a handsome striking clock and Mrs Porteous with a handbag. Mr .Porteous took a very active part in all sports and was president of the sports club and football club and a member of the rifle club. Mrs Porteous is noted for 'her kindly hospitality to all and is a staunch supporter of the church. Mr Porteous, on behalf of his wife and family, thanked the people for their kind wishes and handsome gifts. The singing of “ Auld Lang Syne,” and “ For They are a Jolly good Fellows,” concluded the evening.

FAREWELL AT JPUAHUE. RESPECTED SETTLERS HONOURED. A very well-attended social was held in the Puahue Sdhooihouse to hiid farewell to Mr and Mrs Esau Pretty and family, who have been long resident in the district and who. now are leaving to make a home elsewhere. The function took the form of a card evening, with cribbage and 500. The attendance was representative of the district. Mr W; Cavanagh, president of the Cribbage Club, presided. A very happy evening was spent. Thd winners in the cribbage section proved to he Mrs R. Baillie, jun., and Mr F. Morris, while at 500 Mrs Pretty secured the honours. Consolation awards were made to Miss B. Cavanagh and Mr Johnson.

During the supper interval Mr Cavanagh referred to the high esteem in which the guests were held and said the settlers desired to show their recognition by presenting mementoes of very pleasant associations. On behalf of the Cribbage Club Mr Cavanagh asked Mr Pretty to accept a solid leather brief bag, “ full of hearty good wishes for the future.” Mr W. G. Park presented Mrs Pretty with a travelling rug from the settlers of the district, and he assured the recipient that it. was intended as a reminder of the very warm regard in Which she was held. . . '.V After musical honours, had been given, Mr Pretty thanked the settlers for their expressions of goodwill.
