OBITUARY.

MR G. Y. CANTON. Mr George Young Canton, for some years foreman of the Henderson Town Board staff, died yesterday morning after a long illness, at the age of 65. Mr Canton took a keen interest In volunteer fire brigade work. He formed brigades at Carterton, Hawera, Greytown and Morrinsville. MRS MARGARET PATERSON. The death occurred at 'Huntly West of Mrs Margaret Paterson, aged 61 years. Mrs Paterson, who was born in England, had lived at Huntly for 35 years. She Is survived by two daughters anddhree sons, Mrs R. Wilson and Mrs Rodgers and Messrs Allen, James and Bert Paterson. The interment took place at the Klmihia Cemetery and was largely attended. MR W. CULLEN. The late Mr Cullen, of Boundary Road, Claudelands, was the fourth son of Mr and Mrs John Cullen, of Maungaturoto, Kaipara, who 1 were among the first settlers of Albertlalid. Coming to New Zealand at the age of eight years, the late Mr Cullen lived through the exciting years of North Auckland’s pioneering days, building most of the early homes In and around Maungaturoto; also, with his brothers, forming the Great North Road through the Bay of Islands. Mr Cullen came to the Waikato about 1911, first farming in Ohaupo, then taking over the private hotel known as “Candara" in Te Kuiti, after a year or two retiring from active work owing to ill-health. He has since lived a quiet life in Hamilton. He is survived by two sons. W. P. Cullen (Hamilton) and W. M. Cullen (Mount Albert), and one daughter Mrs R. Adams (Boundary Road, Hamilton).
