“The issues are hanging In the clouds,” said Gandhi, on leaving the Viceroy’s house yesterday. 'There is no Indication of any settlement of the Indian problem, but it is understood that considerable progress was made toward an arrangement. Lord Irwin is reported to have promised an authoritative answer to Gandhi’s case after consultation with the Secretary of State for India, Mr Wedgwood Benn. The next meeting between the Viceroy and Gandhi is expected to l take place at the week-end.
