BRUTAL ASSAULT.
YOUNG MAORI CHARGED. INHUMAN CRUELTY TO AIOTHER. (Bv TelegTaim.-—T*ress Association.) WAIPUKURAU, Friday. A Maori, Taikura Hanita, aged 24, was charged with brutally assaulting his aged mother. He pleaded guilty. Evidence was given that the accused was subject to flts of violent and frenzied temper. He once cut off a cow’s tail when in a rage and killed another, besides ill-treating a horse. It was stated that the accused attacked his mother because she remonstrated with him for damaging a bath in a fit of temper while washing. The accused literally flew at his mother, striking her across the face and head. He also smacked his sister’s face twice. The Bench ordered the accused to come up for sentence within six months if called upon. He was committed to the care of relatives, will be medically examined, and was bound over to keep off his mother’s property.
