COMMUNITY LIGHTING.
EXTENSION THROUGH TOWN. jigs ■ STEADY PROGRESS REPORTED. Hamilton, like New York, will soon have its “Great White Way." During the last couple of days the community lighting scheme in Victoria Street has been extended from Garden Place to the Post Office on the eastern, side of Lhe Ihoroughlare. Within a week Lenders will be called by the Borough Council for the completion of the work. The name, “ community lighting,” is now somewhat a misnomer. It was first used to suggest that shopkeepers were uniting in mutually beneficial lighting proposals. Alter the Retail Traders’ Association had pioneered the scheme the council took charge, and is installing lights throughout Victoria Street free of charge. The sections already reticulated present a striking appearance at night and have frequently aroused expressions of admiration from visitors.
