DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.
RAILWAY WORKSHOPS DAMAGED AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Damage estimated at £2OOO was caused by Are at the Otahuhu railway workshops last evening when valuable plant, including, two electric motors, a vacuum dust-extracting installation, a steam boiler and a Dutch oven, were completely destroyed, together with the building housing the plant, a two-storey structure, 40ft hy 22ft, built of steel girders and corrugated iron.

ENGINEER BALLY BURNED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Tuesday. Mr. B. Salter, engineer at the Government electric sub-station at Tara:!ale, was badly burned about the lands and arms when he entered a .urning wash-house this morning. The damage to the building was not ;mporlant. The cottage and station buildings were saved from the Aames.
