CREAM CARTING.
EFFECT OF TRAFFIC LAWS. CONFERENCE WITH LOCAL BODIES PREFERENCE REFUSED. At the present time the regulations governing heavy traffic on country roads, conflict seriously with the interests of the dairy industry in connection with which so much heavy carting has to be done. To-day, at the office of the Waikato County Council a conference was held between the representatives of eight local bodies and representatives of the South Auckland Dairy Association, when the inimical effects of the regulations on the dairy industry were discussed.
The dairying representatives sought permission to exceed the regulation loads on lorries engaged in cream carting, and also asked ’that farmers owning lorries up to 2i tons be exempted from the heavy traffic regulations.
The local body representatives decided that they were unable to grant either of the concessions asked.
