ROAD CYCLING.
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. A WIN FOR GROSE. WELLINGTON, Monday. The Palmerston North to Wellingr ton cycle road race, over 102 miles, and the New Zealand championship, were decided on Saturday. Forty-four competitors faced the
starter, including one who was only 15 years of age, but was not officially recognised as an entrant. Conditions for the race were favourable for most of the way, and fast times were recorded. Thirty-five riders, including the boy, Cavell, of Wellington, completed the course. The placings were:—
Arthurs (Wellington), GOm hep .. 1 Russell (Wellington), GOm 2 Lawrence (Palmerston Nth.), 20m 3 Ross (Palmerston Nth), 45m .... '4 Dixon (Palmerston Nth), 35m .. 5 Bright (Wellington), 40m 6 Grose and Richards, of Canterbury,
finished eighth and ninth respectively, and made the fastest times.'
The New Zealand championship was won by Grose in 41i 58m 11s, and Richards was second, taking 4h 58m 11 2-5 s to complete, the course, while (Large, also of Canterbury, was third, his time being 4h 50m 465. The time for the race beats the previous record made by Lukey.
