PHAR LAP SHOT AT.
ESCAPES INJURY. A COURAGEOUS ATTENDANT. CULPRITS EFFECT THEIR ESCAPE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Nov. 1, 1.65 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 1. An attempt was made to disable the cup favourite, Phar Lap at Caulfield this morning. He sprinted two furlongs on the sand in 28s and when leaving for home, 1 shots were fired from a closed motor. Some of the pellets were said to have lodged In the horse’s cover. Phar Lap was frightened but is stated to be unhurt. The attendant acted very courageously. The motor drove away quickly after the shots. The police are inquiring.
