THE UNEMPLOYED.
DECREASE IN REGISTRATIONS. /WELLINGTON, Friday. A decrease is shown in the number of unemployed registered for the week ended October 27. The total of registrations for the week was 6018, compared with 6055 the previous week. . The figures for the chief centres are as follows: Auckland, 1834 (last week 1785); Wellington, 814 (844); Christchurch, 956 .(1027); Dunedin, 468 (430) ; Invercargill, 182 (194). Since April 7907 men have been placed on Government relief works. , A HARD WINTER. UNEMPLOYMENT PEAK OVER. DUNEDIN, Friday. When addressing a deputation today, the Minister of public Works, Hon.- W. B. Taverner, said: “We realise that the unemployment peak is over. ' The winter lias been hard, and the difficulties have been tremendous. We have got through it not so badly, considering everything.”
