CENTENARY OF WAIKATO.
L (To the Editor.) ®Sir,—The centenary of the arrival of the first pakeha settlers in the Waikato occurs this month. So far I have seen nothing in print, nor have I heard of any action being taken by the authorities to fittingly mark the occasion. It must be, surely, that His Worship the Mayor and the City Fathers are going to take cognisance of tins' important occasion and give a lead to the public. If so, they are moving along quietly, which is hardly the right way to work up public interest. If no action has so far been taken, -they will require to bestir themselves. Perhaps at the meeting of the council next week the “first shot” will be fired. I am, etc. — INTERESTED. Cambridge, October 30.
