INTOXICATED MOTORIST.
FINED AND LICENSE CANCELLED. MAGISTRATE ' CRITICISES JURIES. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, Friday. At the Police Court Wesley Dobson was fined £25, with £5 Is costs, for having been intoxicated while in charge of a car, and was de-licensed for 15 months. He was also convicted and ordered to come up for sentence for negligent driving. The case was the outcome of a coilision In the borough on Monday night. The Magistrate, Mr Orr-Walker, said accused was fortunate that he had not killed someone, but was perhaps unfortunate in not having killed someone, for in that case he would have gone before a jury and no doubt would have been let off. Juries were not helping to put down this business of driving while intoxicated. Their ' decisions were /noticeable throughout New Zealand. Fortunately magistrates had an opportunity of endeavouring to stop the practice of driving while intoxicated.
