A message from Boulogne states the twin-engined plane City of Washington, en route from Paris to Croydon, crashed when nearing the coast. The engine ceased action, but the pilot struggled on seeking a landing plane overturned and was completely wing crashed into a hillside and theplane voerturned and was destroyed, but did not catch fire. One passenger and two Impeiral Airways’ employees were killed and two other passengers injured. The accident was not discovered for two hours. When' some farm labourers were going to work after dinner they found a passenger (Mr.S, A. Tompkins, of Manchester) who, despite a terribly injured leg, which has since been amputated, crawled nearly a mile shouting for help. He was almost exhausted but manfTged to explain the whereabouts of the crash. The rescuers found the * remainder of the occupants still in the wreak. An American passenger and the mechanic ,were dead, and another mechanic died after being lifted out. The other survivors were seriously injured. This is the Imperial Airways second channel service fatality. It had previously carried 150,000 passengers during five years and flown 5,000,000 miles with only one fatal crash, when the city pf Ottawa came down in the channel. ___ ■
