CRICKET.

THE OPENING DAY. FIRST TRIAL OF STRENGTH. To-morrow will see the commencement of the first matches of all grades of the Waikato Cricket Association. With twenty teams competing, all available playing ateas will be occupied. As usual, the Senior A amtehes will he played on the grass wickets at Seddon Park, while all the others will be on matting on various grounds. On No. 1 wicket Hamilton will meet Old Boys and a close struggle should ensue. Tlie Hamilton bowling is very strong with plenty of variety. Winger may find the wicket a bit soft yet, but if he can get any pace off it, he should be able to turn a lot and prove very destructive. Taylor is not so much affected by the state of. the ground and can be depended on to keep the batsmen quiet for a few overs at least. Lissetle should be well suited and may prove to be their most useful bowler. They have plenty of good batsmen as well, and with-Eyre, Pomeroy, Langdon and Lissette to give them a start, should be able to account for a big total.

Old Boys’ Form

The Old Boys’ batting strength has been improved with new members, and if they are in form may he capable of mastering the Hamilton attack, llavvke will be missed, but with liockin, Clough, Buekland and Senior of last year's team with their new talent will fully extend their opponents. They have a stronger bowling side than previously, Smith providing them with a left-hander they have always needed. Hamilton East and Frankton. These teams meet on No. 2 wicket, Seddon Hark. East certainly seem to have the stronger team, but Frankton have often shown that their bowlers arc too good for the best batsmen. Should they find the wicket lo their liking, they will be very dangerous and Hamilton East may find run-gelling a hard matter. Their batting may he more consistent than before. St. George developed a great deal last season, and will he a hard man to get out this season, while Connolly, Ewan and Mills can he counted on to make a good light to get runs. Hamilton East have a wealth of talent in ail departments and Badeley, Hampton, Skeet and Cassidy make a quartet that is sure of running up a big score, while there are others who are more likely to get runs than not. Badeley, Going and I. Johnston will probably bear the brunt of the attack, though Cassidy and R. Johnston are change bowlers above the ordinary. The Fixtures. Senior A.—Old Boys v.
