MARIST OLD BOYS.

AN ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. ANNUAL SOCIAL. INTEREST IN OLD SCHOOL. The annual social gathering of th§ Marist Bros. Old Boys’ Football Club was held in the Marist Hall last evening and proved one of the most successful/ held since the inauguration of these popular club functions several years ago. The club’s popular president, Mr P. Kelly, was in the chair, and in his opening remarks extended a warm welcome to the gathering. A Terigthy tohst list was... honoured, and a musical programme provided by Mr R. Blackie and his party proved an enjoyable acquisition to the success of the evening. A w-arm welcome was extended during the course of the evening to the parish priest, the Rev. Father Bleakley, whoMn response to the toast of the clergy, expressed the hope that the Marist Club would continue to prosper in Hamilton. The speaker appealed to all ex-pupils of the Marist School to continue to take a constructive interest in their Old Alma Mater and the men who had sacrificed so much that they might receive a sound education. Reference was made later by Brother Palladius, to the interest al-' ways taken in ex-pupils of a Marist school by their old teachers. He hoped that they would never fail to bo "a credit to their old associations. Tribute to the work of the Hamilton Rugby Union in the interests of football was paid by Bro. Clemens. The union, the speaker pointed out, was composed of men who had, at considerable sacrifice to themselves, devoted their tireless energies to the better management of the sport. He hoped that the co-operation ■ and loyalty between the Marist Club and the "Union would ever continue. Brother Clemens referred to the, vast improvement effected at Rugby Park during the last season and the. efforts of the ,union to.assure improved training facilities there. Mr P. A. Syers, in responding to the toast of the Union considered the training shed recently erected at Rugby Park one of the most up-to-date in the Dominion. Rugby would prosper, and the various clubs-inthe town flourish as long as they all played the, game. Opportunity was taken by Brother Clemens to refer in eulogistic terms to the club secretary, Mr J. McCabe . Mills. As long as they had a secretary of his calibre the club would prosper, the speaker remarked. Brother Clemens also referred to the club.’s enthusiastic president, Mr Kelly, whose untiring interest in the affairs of the club was largely-re-sponsible for its success" over past seasons.
