DISPELLING DEPRESSION.

“WAILING WALL” IN AUSTRALIA. “PUCKER UP AND WHISTLE.” Under the caption “Pucker up and whistle a bit" a Brisbane firm has issued the following “uplift" circular in the hope of dispelling the gloomy clouds — For 2000 years silly Jews of Jerusalem have gathered at the Wailing Wall and wailed for the restoration of the Jewish Kingdom. Much good it has done them. ■ The wise Jews stopped wailing, went to Europe,' America, and Australia, and are making good fortunes. They don’t wail. They got busy. They learned that moaning doesn’t pay any profits. But we in Australia have a big Wailing Wall. Thousands of business men wail every day: “It can’t be done”; “The old days were the best”; “Nobody has any money.” Abolish these Wailing Walls! Pucker up and whistle a bit; it will do us the world of good. It would be folly not to admit that there are many slow spots in business; but the history of man is but an endless story of ups and downs, and an examination of-people’s fears regarding to-morrow discloses how needless are most of our worries.

i Bow and Arrow Era. Great Britain became alarmed years ago because there was little remaining wood to make bows and arrows for the army. The introduction of the electrio light caused a precipitate drop in gas company shares. Our forefathers were concerned about enough food and shelter. All around us are equally primitive individuals who find it impossible to believe in future industrial progress. They are influenced solely by to-day’s happenings and are blind to the lessons of yesterday or the progress of to-morrow. Spread the good news that you hear. Our country travellers tell us that they have never, in fifteen years, seen crops looking better; that sidings are crammed with wool, and hundreds of lorries are being used to bring more from distant shearingsheds. We read that last week more wool and sugar came into Brisbane than during any other single week for 11 years! .There are a dozen oilier signs which go far towards putting us in a healthy frame of mind again, leading not to an orgy of spending and recklessness, but to a mighty good business on the basis of sound and actual values. Get away from the Wailing Wall — Pucker up and whistle a bitl
