ECLIPSE OF THE SUN.
AMERICAN EXPEDITION. SECURE SATISFACTORY RESULTS. United Press Assn. —ETec. Tel. Copyright WASHINGTON, October 23. The United States Navy Department has received a message from Captain Keppler, leader of the United States Naval Observatory expedition to Niaufou to witness the solar eclipse yesterday, reporting that the observations of the party were satisfactory. The New Zealand party also was successful. The natives were not alarmed by the eclipse, but much interested in itThere were no clouds and the 'sky was of very good quality. Captain Keppler says he obtained direct photographs of an entirely satisfactory character. The corona* was midway in type and fairly bright, with two fairly long streamers—one 300 degrees arid one 120 degrees—and six medium streamers.
Photographs to verify the Einstein relativity shift theory and spectographs were also secured.
