The younger generation is growing up ignorant of the sight and colour of gold. Recently at Kakaroa a storekeeper was tendered a half-sovereign by a lad buying sweets, the boy apparently being under the impression that the unfamiliar gold coin was a sixpence. The storekeeper sent the lad home with the half-sovereign with instructions to give it to his mother.
