BEEF LITTLE CHANGE. FIRM INQUIRY FOR LAMBS. FAT PIGS EASIER. At Westfield yesterday averagesized yardings came forward in most sections, and prices showed little change on late rates. A yarding of just under 300 head of fat steers was made up of mostly medium weight cattle well suited to the average butcher’s requirements. The quality generally was good; there wers no exceptionally heavy cattle in the yarding. South Auckland graziers were the principal vendors. The cow and heifer offering was not a heavy one, and the quality was not up to that of the steer section. Bidding was steady throughout, best quality ox beef making up to 39s a hundred, and the 'average price ranging round 37s a hundred. Extra choice cow and heifer beef made up to 37s a hundred, but the greater part of the offering brought from 29s to 33s a hundred. Top price xvas secured for a line of 17 extra prime but not exceptionally heavy-boned steers on account of Mr - Gordon Vosper, of Cambridge, which made up to £l6 10s and averaged £l4 7s. A truck of medium-boned well-finished steers on account of Mr C. E. Sampson, Te Kauwhata, sold up to £ls 12s 6d. Good quality small to medium boned, wellfinished steers on account of Mr J. McNicol, Te Aroha, sold from £l3 to £l4 7s Gd. Twenty-four well-finish-ed handy-weight steers, on account of Mr E. Allen, Cambridge, made from £l2 5s to £l4 10s. Heavy prime steers brought from £l4 to £l6 10s; medium, £l2 5s to £l3 15s; light, from £9. Heavy prime young cows and heifers made up to £ll ss; medium, £7 to £8 15s; light, £5 10s to £6 15s; unfinished and old from £4. ■ The market for calves opened with prices a little better than last week for good quality vealers. There were few heavy prime runners or vealers, and more than 90 per cent, of the yarding changed hands, at under £2 10s. Heavy prime vealers made up to £7 8s for a particuplarly choice prime calf; heavy vealers made to £4 ss; medium, £2 to £3 ss. Exporters for the bobby veal trade operated freely at from 7s to 12s.

The fat sheep market showed little change on late rates. Well-finished, big-framed wethers, in the . wool, made up to 30s; havy prime shorn wethers to 255; heavy prime woolly ewes, to 24s 6d. ' An entry of spring lambs met with a firm inquiry from buyers for the Auckland retail market. Prices ranged according to quality, averaging in the vicinity of 10d a pound. There an average entry of pigs and prices showed practically no change on late rates. Fats were inclined to be easier. Porkers sold around the equivalent of from 6d to per lb. Baconers made from 4}d to sd. At the moment buyers for bacon factories are offering around 4Jd on the scales. Store pigs at Westfield yesterday met with a steady sale at late rates, big-framed sorts making over 355.
