HUNTLY TOWN BOARD.

ORDINARY MEETING. t GENERAL BUSINESS TRANSACTED. At the ordinary meeting of the Huntly Town Board the chairman (Mr Edgar George) presided over a full attendance of members.' Correspondence from the Minister of Internal Affairs notified that it had been decided to proclaim Huntly as a borough from February 1 next. The British Empire Cancer Society’s application for assistance was deferred for a fortnight, pending inquiries from-other local bodies. The Minister for Railways advised that the Rotorua to Auckland express would, as from November 17, stop at Huntly. In this connection an endeavour is to be made to have the second express to Wellington stopped at Huntly daily at 9.50 p.m. Building permits were granted to Messrs B. Anderson, J. Davidson and F. Wilkinson. It was pointed out that buildings had been erected and permits applied for afterwards. A final warning is to be given that this procedure is illegal and must cease, or offenders will be brought to book. Complaints were made that smoking at dances in the Town Hall was becoming an intolerable nuisance, and in future action will be taken against transgressors. Wilful destruction of the board’s property, late arrival of the Saturday night train from Glen Afton, and allocation of taxi stands Were dealt with. In the last-named connection a previous resolution to give preference to the full-time, taxinien was rescinded, and in future ail will be subjected to the same treatment—viz., that the first four ■to come on to the stand will have preference, those arriving later to take up their positions at ihe Soldiers’ -Memorial .vtand till a vacancy occurs on the main stand. Advices were received from sister local bodies re charges for permanent paving of footpaths, and on the motion of the chairman, it was resolved that the local 'charges should be necessary work and repairs at the cost of the board and a 50/50 basis for permanent paving between the owner and the board. It was. resolved that the current sanitary rate should be 32s (id per annum. The report of the health officer showed that the health, etc., of the town was satisfactory. It was resolved to approach the Government in the hope that the board’s valuable lalkie equipment would not be affected by Ihe recent rise in film duly, and also to make further representations to advance the construction and laying-out of the new recreation ground.
