HAMILTON ORPHANS.
> fortnightly meeting. AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME. One of the most successful evenings of the present session of the Hamilton Orphans’ Club was held on Saturday evening, . when a large number of members and visitors met in the Winter Shpw Concert Hall. Bro. Vicepresident H. J. Ferguson occupied the chair, and in this capacity entertained the gathering with humorous anecdotes. The programme was particularly good, and every item was well received. Particularly popular were numbers by the Harmonic Four, who w'ere called upon to respond to numerous encores. The club’s orchestra, too, was in good form, and contributed several items, including the well-known and difficult overture “Light Cavalry." The newly formed Orphans’ Choir also received an enthusiastic reception. During the evening the chairman delivered an interesting address on “Vibration,” illustrating his remarks with, scientific facts. Reference was made by the chairman to the Orphans’ Choir. He congratulated the members on their excellent performance, and expressed surprise that they should have attained such a high standard with their music in the short time they had been practising together. Next Saturday the Hamilton Club will pay an official visit to the Te Awamutu Club, and it is hoped that as many members as possible will go. After supper had been served the club’s orchestra opened the second half of the programme with an overture and a march. The Harmonic Four were then called upon again, and entertained W’ith three numbers. The meeting was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Following was the programme:— Overtures, march, waltz, Club’s Orchestra (under Bro. Conductor J. T. Battersby) ; vocal quartettes, Harmonic Four (Messrs J. T. Battersby, K. P. Eade, E. 11. Quill and F. E. Mason) ; part songs, Hamilton Orphans’ Choir (under Bro. Conductor H. Mayo) ; humorous anecdotes, Bro. Howard (Auckland); songs, Bros. McCready, L. Foster, F. E. Mason, F. R. Jones.
