THE NEW PLANET.

BESTOWAL OF A NAME. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. NEW YORK, May 25. A message from Flagstaff, Arizona, says the Lowell Observatory scientists have selected the name of Pluto for the recently-discovered planet. One scientist said: We felt that the line of Roman gods after whom the other planets were named should not be broken. Because the discovery was so pre-eminently a triumph of reasoning our choice would have been Minerva, if that name had not been borne for many years by an asteroid. Furthermore, Pluto will lend itself, easily to the monografn, “ P.L.” —the late Dr. Percival Lowell’s initials.
