MOTORISTS IN COURT. • TWO SERIOUS CASESWar was declared oh speeding motorists and motor cyclists in Hamilton on a recent Friday by Traffic Inspector Courtney. As a result, several appeared at the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M. In many cases the traffic officers followed the delinquents in a car. The case of James Edward Rex Millington, a young motor cyclist, who was charged with riding over all the intersections in Te Aroha Street, between Grey Street and Peach Grove Road, at a speed of 54 miles per hour, was viewed in a particularly serious light by the Magistrate. , Defendant had nothing to say. “This is a very bad case,” said his Worship, in fining defendant £5, with costs, suspending his license until May 31, and disqualifying him from holding a license for three months. Another motor , cyclist, Raymond Richard Salisbury, who did not appear, was fined £5, with costs, for dangerous driving in Galloway Street, and his license was suspended for three months. ■ ■‘He was doing 50 miles an hour, stated the traffic inspector, who pursued the defendant in a car. After reading a letter sent by defendant, his Worship remarked: “He seems to suggest that a carload of drunkards was following him.” Traffic Inspector Courtney. It is ridiculous. . „ . , His Worship: I agree. That letter does not help his case. _ Frederick - Samuel Hill pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit, and was fined £l, with costs. For overtaking another vehicle at an intersection he was ordered to pay the costs, 10s. ... The following were fined £l, witn costs 10s, for speeding in cars:— John Perrow, Algar Bunyard, William Horton, James Henry Boryer, and Victor Deacon Woolmar. , _ The Magistrate pointed out that ltthe regulations’ “intersection" meaDt the junction of any two roads, and no motorist should pass another car at an intersection, unless it was travelling at a speed of six miles an hour op less.
