CAUGHT IN MACHINERY.
SHIP’S OFFICER INJURED. CAPTAIN’S PROMPT ACTION. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) THAMES, Tuesday. Robert Salter, mate of the Hauili, was seriously injured at Ngatea Wharf this morning. He was unloading cargo with a winch and bent over the latter to make an adjustment. His coat became entangled in the machinery and he was dragged from his seat and whirled round three times. Captain Ranger, who was tallying the cargo, heard the mate’s shouts and jumped from t'hc wharf to the ship s deck and slashed the rope in two, stopping the winch and saving Salter’s life.
