Such a rare one -to ride as the GallopingSquire.” A well-borsed held, numbering over 50 mel the master (Mr Wynn Brown) with a mixed pack of 173 -couples at the popular meeting place, Bruntwood Cross Roads, bn Saturday. The welcome rain that had fallen had considerably improved, hunting conditions, and-.hounds Were-able' to keep- the scent better than on-previous nppfjQinnQ. -Hounds were thrown off in Mr Sam Holmes’ property,.- and found almost at once, the hare , leading the field over a nice bit'of country, the properties of Messrs W.’ Cartmill, Stokes,-and J. Ambury, and-then back to ‘.‘Broadmea.dows,” where a squall came on, and hounds lost her. At the < back of- Broadmeadows homestead hounds'-’ chopped a bare, and immediately af.er.wards put up another that provided a real good gallop, but she dodged hounds and saved her scent for another day.. The best run.of the day was from a good hare that jumped up in front of hounds in Mr J. Ambury’s, and led the pack and field across .country to Ne.wcombe’s corner, Turning right handed, she ran in a circle to Hautapu School, where scent became very light,’ so the Master decided for homeHares were plentiful and strong, but lay very-close.- Scent was patchy, at times breast, high, when, hounds fairly flew, but it would suddenly be- 1 come faint, and almost: fail '.altogether. 11 was a-good day’s .sport, and although the . fences were fairly stiff, there were no falls-.of a serious nature, and-the country, rode well.
