HAMILTON MARKETS. HEINS’ EGGS SCARCE. BRAN UP IN THE SOUTH. Produce. The local merchants report that bran has advanced £1 a ton 'in the South. Pollard is selling at late quotations. Potatoes are going out freely and will remain cheap for a little longer. Southern potatoes are expected in large quantities .within the next few days. Oats are very firm, with a good demand- Wheat has advanced* Id per bushel in the South, but there is no advancement on the local markets. Maize is very quiet at present. There is a good inquiry for seeds, and pig foods are selling exceptionally well. Fruit. Steady consignments of all lines of fruit are coming to hand, but the demand for apples is particularly quiet, only the choicest grades meeting with any competition. Albany Surprise grapes are now practically finished, and the Black Hamburghs are making their appeasance. Hawke’s Bay tomatoes are also almost over, and the market is now being supplied with Hutt lines, which are of exceptionally choice quality and of fine flavour. The following prices are being realised:— Dessert apples, Jonathans 5s to 5s 6d, Delicious 5s 6d to 6s 6d, Northern Spys 5s 6d to 6s 6d; cookers, Reinette du Canada 4s to 4s 6d, other green cookers 4s to ss. Pears, Beuree Bose 7s lo 8s 6d, Winter Coles 8s to 9s, Caprimonls 7s lo Bs, cookers as to 7s. Tomatoes, Hawke’s Bay, 121 b boxes, 2s to 4s, according to quality; Lower Hutt, 221 b cases, 7s to 8s; lemons, Is to Is 2d per dozen; Te Kauwhata grapes, Albany Surprise, 8s lo 9s; Black Hamburgh, 8s 6d to 9s Od; Californian oranges, 40s to 48s Od; bananas, 30s to 30s. Vegetables.

All lines in plentiful supply, with a glut of pumpkins. The demand is fair. Prices; Cabbages, as to 0s per sack; cauliflowers, 7s to 9s; kumcras, 5s to 0s per sugar hag; pumpkins, •is to 0s per sack; marrows, 4s to Os; carrots, beet, turnips, parsnips, Is per dozen; onions, 2s 6d to 3s per sugar bag; potatoes, Pukckohe. sugar bags, 4s 9d to 5s 6d; Southern, £7 10s to £S per ton.

Poultry. Very heavy yardings of poultry came forward during the week, and prices realised were satisfactory to both buyers and sellers. Black Orpingtons (cockerels) made 2s 9d to 4s 9d; White Leghorns, cockerels 2s Id to 2s od, small Is 5d to Is 6d; Black Orpington, hens Is lid lo 3s 6d; White Leghorn, hens 2s to ss; old hens, Is 7d to Is lOd; ducks, Is 9d to 4s Id; turkey gobblers, 11s to 14s; turkey bens, 6s to 8s 9d; Black Orpington pullets, 5s 9d to 6s 3d; White Leghorn pullets 4s 4d lo 5s 3d; White Leghorns, small 2s to 2s Bd. Fish. The local dealers report that schnapper is very plentiful, though flounder is scarce. There is not much variety on the market, all deep-sea fish being hard to obtain- A few crayfish are available, and Stewart Island oysters are on hand.

Dairy Produce. Hen’s eggs are scarce, and the wholesale price has advanced to 2s 4d per dozen. Butter remains firm at is 4d and Is 0d per ib wholesale. Separator butter realises lid per lb.
