HAMILTON ACTIVITIES.

MONTHLY NEWS SHEET SUGGESTED Many matters of interest to hers of the Hamilton branch of the Y.M.C.A. have been decided during the past week, and now that the gymnasium season is properly started there are busy weeks ahead for ail of the committees. ' The “Catch My Pal" membership campaign is achieving good results, some 40 new members joining the association within ten days. The gymnasium membership for this month last year stood at 178, but this year the total has risen to 213. Obstetrical Fund. On Wednesday evening the Optimist Club held its usual weekly dinner. Theer w T as a good attendance of members and an interesting address on “Wireless," given by Optimist Cable, was much appreciated. In connection wtih the Optimist Club a subscription list for the Obstetrical fund bas been opened, and so far the sum of £2 15s has been realised. Committee Meetings. At a meeting of the Physical Committee arrangements were finalised for the annual inter-house basketball tournament. This fixture will commence on May 6, and heavy entries in the various competitions are predicted. The Social Committee have arranged several functions to be held in the next few weeks. A social evening on May 3 is the first of these. For those who are devotees to the cue and hall a billiards ladder and handicap tournament have been arranged. Another side of the association’s activities, the spiritual aspee-t, is in the hands of the Religious Go-mmittee. At a meeting of this body it was announced that the Sunday afternoon men’s meetings will commence on May 4. Every member of the association is expected to endeavour to he present at these gatherings. Social Gathering. A pleasing innovation is the social function which is held every Wednesday evening after the ladies’ class is concluded. The members join in community singing and in dancing, and a happy time is spent. Such has been the success of the first of these functions that it is intended to make them a permanent feature. Football and Hockey. A strong team is being entered in the hockey competition, and the first practice was held to-day. Every effort is being made to form a senior association football team. The number required is practically complete, and “Soccer” enthusiasts desirous of joining the club are asked to send in their names immediately. The HI-Y Club. The usual weekly meeting of the Hi-Y Club was held on Friday in the club-rooms. The nucleus of a library has been formed, and as soon as this has grown in extent it will be available to members, who are invited to bring along any books that may be suitable for the library. Monthly News Sheet. An effort is being made to publish a monthly news sheet containing items of interest and reports of association doings. Suggestions regarding this scheme are invited, and if sufficient support is' forthcoming the first issue will be proceeded with at once. It is not intended to make any charge for the sheet, which will be devoted purely to matters of local interest.
