LEAMINGTON AFFAIRS.

MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Leamington Town Board was held on Thursday. Those present were Messrs T. A. Hicks (deputy chairman), A. E. Peppercorn, T. H. Kelly, ,T. W. Garland, and the secretary (Mr Walter Stopford). Balance Sheet. The clerk presented the balance sheet for the year ended March 31. The general account showed a deficit of £24 17s Bd. There was also a debit of £l7 4s 3d on the Waikato Hospital account. The water account, interest j and sinking fund account, showed a credit balance of £B3 14s 4d, leaving a final credit balance of £4l 12s sd. Bates outstanding, including penalties, amounted to £sl 12s sd. Cleaning of Drains. The following tenders were accepted for the cleaning of the board's drains :—Gascoigne’s drain, 30 chains, L. G. Knight, Is 9d per chain; Beil's drain, 12 chains, L. C. Knight, Is 8d per chain; White’s and Fletcher’s drain, 30 chains, M. .T. Hickey, 3s per chain; Richmond’s drain, 20 chains, ,T. Maunder, Is Gd per chain; store drain, 15 chains, J. Maunder, Is 3d per chain; Mack’s to power-house drain, 53 chains, D. Kingdou, Is Gd per chain; Blackman’s to Market Square drain; 50 chains, ,T. Maunder, Is 3d per chain; Hounslow’s to Domain drain, 38 chains, L. C. Knight, 2s per chain. Protection of Game. In view of the approach of the shooting season it was resolved that notice be given that the board would offer a reward of £5 for anyone reporting the sbooting by anyone of pheasants within the board’s area. Noxious Weeds. It was decided to call tenders for clearing the noxious weeds from all the board’s reserves. Finance. The clerk reported a credit balance of £4l 12s sd. Accounts amounting to £42 2s 2d were passed for payment. Inspector’s Report. The Board's Inspector (Mr R. Webber) reported that noxious weeds had received considerable attention during the month. Several notices had been sent out. In connection with the Hickey Estate, legal notices had been sent to the Public Trustee, and the inspector thought that the board should insist on the property being cleaned up, as it was in a very bad state. Sixty dogs had been registered Referring to the cattlo grazing on the roads, the inspector said that many of the metal plates attached to the chains on the 00-w’s neck had worn off, which made it difficult to determine registered from unregistered cattlo. He thought leather straps with a brass plate would be more efficient. DOMAIN BOARD. The same members sat to do the business of the Leamington Domain Board. Removal of Shod. Two tenders were received for the removal of the tool shqd to a position further hack in the Domain. Mr W. H. Tripp’s tender of £4 was accepted. Finance. The credit balance at the bank was £174 lis 1 I'd. The clerk remarked that the credit was mounting up. Alter some discussion, it was decided to place £IOO on deposit in the Post Office Savings Bank.
