BETTING CHARGE
PROSECUTION AT MORRINSVILLE. FINE OF £2O IMPOSED. (Special to Times.) MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. In the Police Court, Morrinsvillo, before Messrs C. M- Gummer and W. T. Osborne, J.'sP., Norman Webb pleaded guilty to a charge that from April 1 to 11 he did loiter in Thames and Studholme streets, Morrinsvillo, for the purpose of betting. Constable bleeps said that accused was well known In the town. From information received lie had arrested accused, and had found belting charts and betting books in his possession. Ho was quite frank in his statement when arrested, and did not attempt to deny what ho had done, He apparently was only betting In a small way. Accused said he was not aware that laying doubles was such a serious offence, 110 had done so to 1111 In his spare lime, and it was his Hist offence. In fining accused £2O the Justices stated the Act clearly stated that that was the minimum penalty. , The default was fixed at 14 days’ imprisonment- Accused was given a week In which to find the money.
