COURSING.

NEW CLUB FORMED. IDEAL GROUND ACQUIRED. ELECTION OF OFFICERSThat the sport of coursing has by no means gone by the board in Hamilton was in evidence at a special meeting convened in Glovers’ Hall, Frankton, when Mr F. Rothwell presided over a large attendance of local coursing enthusiasts. The meeting had as its object the finalising of arrangements for the formation of a- Hamilton Coursing Club and the appointment of a willing band of officers that would ensure the success of this new acquisition to local sporting activities. For years the Frankton Enclosure Coursing Club functioned under considerable disadvantage at Whatawhata. Hard work, on the part of a willing band of workers, had created a good coursing ground there, but public apathy, due to the inconvenience of reaching the grounds, ultimately influenced the club in its decision to wind up its affairs. Efforts were subsequently made to acquire a suitable coursing ground nearer the town and the efforts of a select committee recently appointed were crowned with success in the .acquisition of an ideal ground adjacent to ■Rugby Park. This ground, in the opinion of those qualified to judge, can, at reasonable expenditure, be made the premier coursing ground of the Dominion. The proposed grounds which will be easily accessible to the public, should command large attendances at all club fixtures. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr J. Fraser Smith; president, Mr D. D. Wilson; committee, Messrs F. McMahon, H. Quinn. L. C. Buckenham, C. McDavitt, Cleaver, 0. M. Good, T. McWilliams, J- Crowley, E. Goldsworthy; secretary and treasurer, Mr 11. D. Aitken.
